What all this makes clear is that, in some significant respects, the evidence-based practice movement is anti-professional: it challenges the claims of professional practitioners – whether doctors, teachers, social workers, police officers etc. – to be able to make expert judgements on the basis of their experience and local knowledge. Instead it is argued that what is good practice can only be determined through research.
